About the Artist
In 2016 when visual artist Ray Rixon was selecting participants to implement The White Bluff Project collaboration, in partnership with Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, he approached passionate artists and collaborators Mark George and Phil Greed. Ray had collaborated with each individually on previous projects. All three artists have forged significant, long careers in the arts: winning multiple art awards, producing feature films and having work included in public collections. Mark and Ray shared a fascination with combining moulded kelp and LED lighting sculpturally, initially resulting in the ‘Float’ installation in the lauded The White Bluff Project Exhibition. This encouraged Mark and Ray to pursue kelp’s sculptural possibilities and form Stipe Studio Collective as a vehicle for more sculptural production. Phil joined when they needed a collaborator to help design and produce wheel thrown ceramic bases for free standing works.
