About Belinda Wiltshire
Born in Geelong (Vic, AUS), Belinda Wiltshire has based her visual art practice within Naarm, Melbourne’s Northern suburbs since 1999. Working as a multidisciplinary artist she focuses mainly on painting and ceramic art. Both mediums ebb and flow within their boundaries; shifting from abstraction to realism, sculptural to functional, with an intention of freedom in purpose for artist and viewer alike.
Wiltshire’s ceramic artworks are created using a combination of wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques. Each one off piece is made with a spontaneity for design and love of form in mind. “My works are comprised of a selection of what you might call building blocks. Each final piece is a compilation of smaller basic forms which are then stacked and joined. The overall process happens organically, without any rigid planning as a way to give the handcrafted results an extra sense of character. It also means each piece is unique.”
