Karen McPhail-Bell | Bird’s-Eye View

SKU: karen-mcphail-bell Category:

Description

From my window in California, I enjoyed the tree outside, up close, from a bird’s-eye view. Trees are generous beings, offering cool shade, food, shelter and a gathering place. Numerous birds play and live in this particular tree, singing and chirping to each other all day.

Sharing space with this tree, birds and squirrels filled me with joy. Even when surrounded by driveways and multi-family dwellings, this tiny space felt vast when present with the life there. This painting honours that wondrous, spacious feeling of being part of an ecosystem.

Materials Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel. Presented as a hexaptych (6 panel painting) to reflect the view from my window.

Measurements (mm) H 660 W 988 L 35

About Karen McPhail-Bell

Karen is an Australian artist, coach and community health researcher who just returned from the San Francisco Bay Area in California, to Jellurgal, Burleigh Heads. Karen’s art explores what it is to be in relationship to each other, and to a place and space. Through poetry and mixed-media painting, Karen reflects and amplifies what she sees and believes is possible in our relationships. As an artist with a PhD straddling anthropology and public health, Karen sees the link between arts, culture and health-for-all as both intuitive and evidenced.

In the USA, Karen solo-exhibited in the San Mateo County Art Gallery. Her art has also been exhibited at Ingleside Gallery, the Drawing Room SF, ArtFluent, in Santa Barbara, and published in La Raíz Magazine. Her poetry has been published in The Doctorate Magazine and is a part of the forthcoming Deadly Poets Society anthology.
