Barbara Licha NSW – Tenants

What’s your favourite aspect of being an artist?

Communication. Dialogue between me and my creation in studio, dialogue between finished work and individual viewers.

Do you have a favourite material you like to work with?

I can easily say wire, as I am working with it for more than decade and never complained.

Would you rather share an Uber with Barbara Hepworth or Cornelia Parker or Antony Gormley?

Antony Gormley, and I think it would be very interesting.

If you could meet any artist (from the past or present) who would it be?

Alexander Calder perhaps, as I would ask him many questions.

What are you most excited for about SWELL?

I love it’s intimacy, hidden paradise on the way to Gold Coast. So good scenery for sculpture exhibition.

Is there a creative process or method you go through to think of your next piece or do ideas strike you when you don’t expect it?

I do always work in studio at the same time on different sculptures, but if anything happens as a commission or I am required to travel for other work, I am very happy  to do so and look forward to do it.

When did you first realise you loved creating art?

It was early in my childhood, when I could spend hours creating art pieces.

What job did you do before becoming an artist/ or what do you do on top of being an artist?

I enjoy teaching and to be engage with children.

Beach goer or city slicker or outback lover?

I love a variation of experience. I love to travel,  to see different places and people.

Red, blue or yellow?

I love colours and it is used often in my paintings, not yet in sculpture. Grey and shadows of grey work best with my sculpture at the moment.

What do you want the public to see through your current artwork?

When looking at my work I wish people to consider human coexistence in the world, cities, villages, houses.

What drew you to applying for SWELL?

The beautiful atmosphere created at the exhibition.
